Children Learn What They Live

As I'm 28 it is some time (not so long though...) that I've started thinking about pregnancy and parenthood...
It is like I'm preparing myself and my body to maternity...
I have found in my favourite bookshop a shelf full of books about wanting a baby, pregnancy, parenthood, children and their way to learn, etc...and I have said to myself " when it is the moment I'll buy all these books!!!".....oh I imagine my pregnancy as a beautiful period...I imagine my self taking care of the garden and the puppy I'll buy as soon as I discover to be pregnant (I want my baby to grow up with a dog) and reading books in the porch while the sunset colours the sky...

I'm reading a book "the lost and the recovered child" (I think this book hasn't been translated in eng. so I just translated it from the original italian one "Il bambino perso e ritrovato")....ohhhh EVERYBODY should have this book on the shelf...The author, a psycologist, reports, with very easy words, how the children learn from their parents and from the enviroment they grow in...and from where all the fears and negative attitudes come from. It is so interesting...cause we all have been children and we all have learnt to have fear of many things...
She shows..how we can be better parents and how we can avoid trowing our fears and expectation on the shoulders of our babies!

In the bookshop I have found another book that must be interesting...I haven't bought it yet...but I had a look at it and in the middle of it I have found a poem...It is very beautiful and true....I wanna share it with you...

Children Learn What They Live
By Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D
.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.

If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.

If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.

If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.

If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.

If children live with fairness, they learn justice.

If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.

If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.

If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in
which to live.
